THIRD PLANNING APPLICATION SUBMITTED FOR ROYAL GEORGE

27 May 2009

Developers have submitted a third planning application to build a residential care home on the site of the Royal George.

The new planning application has been submitted despite the two previous applications being rejected by the council.

The earliest the council's Development Control Committee can consider the application is June 12.

Councillor David Down, chairman of the Parklands Ward Committee, says: "Residents and ward councillors continue to be deeply concerned by the loss of a local amenity on Brunton Park and this further submission of a plan for a building which is not for community use.

"We also have concerns about the impact on drainage when we know existing systems for surface water drainage can flood local houses.

"Unbelievably the Environment Agency has assessed the application as having a low impact.

"Local residents have raised the issue of the scale of the proposals and extra traffic congestion."
