Throckley First School Update

25 Jan 2011

The Throckley First School site in Newburn Ward is now to be used to accommodate 250 Milecastle School pupils after their school suffered a major roof collapse.

Transport is being put on for the school children, some of whom were temporarily using Walbottle Campus late last year. Milecastle is expected to be using the site for 6 to 9 months while their school is repaired.

Councillor Mike Lynch says: "I am happy that temporary accommodation has been found for the displaced school, but it is important that consultation on future uses for the site is not delayed. Myself and Councillor Mike Curthoys are already working with officers to ensure that this happens and are looking forward to getting the views of local residents on what they think should happen on this prominent location in Throckley. We are committed to making every opportunity for people to have their say and to be listened to."
