WEST DENTON POST OFFICE TO CLOSE
The Labour Government is to close West Denton Post Office - one of nine across Newcastle being axed.
Despite strong campaigns by local residents and the Liberal Democrats the nine branches that were proposed for closure in July will shut.
These include Walbottle, West Denton and Brunswick Village.
Under Labour, thousands of Post Offices have already closed. Now another 2,500 are to go.
When the Conservatives were in power 3,500 post offices were closed.
The Liberal Democrat plan to save the Post Office network would see £2 billion invested.
Newcastle MP Doug Henderson backed the closure programme in a vote in Parliament.
Coun Peter Arnold says: "We put forward a strong case arguing that West Denton Post Office was a vital community facility. I am very disappointed that it is to close later this year."
