Winter Activities a Great Success
The Lemington Lantern Festival
Despite weeks of snow, about a hundred Lemington people turned out on a bitterly cold evening on 16th Dec to enjoy the festival. People walked in procession along the Hadrian Way, carrying their lanterns, accompanied by young musicians and Drummers.
The procession was led by huge figures of the Snow King and Snow Queen and ended at the Lemington Centre for hot drinks, roasted chestnuts and other refreshments. The event was the first of its kind in Lemington, but was judged a real hit and there are plans to hold another Lantern Festival next year.
Hitting a High Note!! Ever since the Lemington Centre opened five years ago, the committee has hoped that a Community Carol Serv ce would be held in the building. On 17th Dec that dream became a reality.
The Vicar, Minister and Priest from all three Lemington Churches led the service of carols and readings, with about sixty people from the community taking part. The service was followed by refreshments and everyone greatly enjoyed the event.
Councillors Lawrence Hunter and Liz Langfield attended both of these events and were delighted to see how many Lemington people were present. Liz said "The level of support for community activities has really grown in the past couple of years, and it's so encouraging to see people getting fully involved in the life of the community."
