WORK DELAYED ON SHOPPING CENTRE

1 Mar 2009

Work to extend Kingston Park shopping centre has been delayed due to a wrangle over a strip of land.

Developers won permission from the Planning Inspectorate to redevelop part of the centre.

The local Lib Dem councillors opposed the application and it was turned down by the city council's Development Control Committee.

However, the developers won planning permission on appeal.

In order to get the development underway, the developer needs to buy a strip of land from the city council and negotiations are underway.

The Lib Dem Team has contacted the shopping centre management to tidy up the local area.

Councillor Anita Lower says: "We have asked for lighting to be repaired and that rubbish be cleared from yards of empty units and properly secured."
