As 2 more energy firms with over 800,000 customers go bust, Government inaction is damaging millions more

Two more energy suppliers went bust this afternoon, leaving over 800,000 facing higher prices and greater uncertainty.
Newcastle Liberal Democrats business spokesperson Cllr Robin Ashby, said:
"The Conservatives in Government have had their eyes tight shut to this impending crisis and the consequences could not be more damaging for many families.
"Energy prices are soaring just as we reach the winter months. For the millions of people hit by tax hikes, universal credit cuts and spiralling prices, this crisis could not have come at a worst time.
"It begs the question, what on earth were the Government doing all this time? They seem at odds with the regulator and now suppliers are collapsing due to inaction from Ministers. It is vulnerable people and cash strapped households that will feel this the most. It feels more and more like a winter of discontent is approaching.
"As an absolute minimum, in my view a significant boost in the Winter Fuel Allowance for all on Universal Credit is essential."
Avro Energy and Green both collapsed on Wednesday afternoon. Avro Energy has 580,000 customers and Green Supplier Limited has 250,000.
