Peter Allen will be the Liberal Democrats candidate for the North Jesmond By Election on Thursday 12 September.
The By Election comes after long serviing local councillor, Gerry Keating, needed to step down due to ill health.
Peter is an experienced campaigner and former city councillor. He is currently coordinating the Lib Dems’ citywide campaign to remove sewage pollution from the Ouseburn, which flows through Jesmond Dene.
Peter was a city councillor for 9 years, serving alongside Gerry Keating. When the Lib Dems ran Newcastle from 2004-2012, Peter was responsible for ensuring Council Tax rises were kept at or below inflation. As a former councillor, he knows how to get things done - sorting out problems for local people whenever possible.
Peter has worked closely with the Jesmond Focus Team for over two years, so is familiar with many of the issues and is known for being willing to listen to concerns.
He lives in Walkerville with Pauline, also a city councillor, and they regularly walk their dog, Marley, in Jesmond Dene. He teaches at Durham University, working with companies and PhD students from a number of universities, including Newcastle and Northumbria, helping them to develop innovative business ideas to address the challenges of achieving global sustainability.
