COUNCIL REJECTS 'LITTLE GREEN' PLANNING APPLICATION
The city council has rejected a planning application to turn the Little Green in South Gosforth into a private car park.
The council's Development Control Committee rejected the application because "the proposed car park would cause demonstrable harm to an area of open space, by virtue of the impact on the openness and greenery of the site".
Among the opponents to the scheme was ward Councillor Mike Cookson.
"The Little Green is a popular local spot in the South Gosforth area and I am pleased it will now not be turned into a car park," he said.
"The applicant does have the right to appeal the council's decision to the Secretary of State. Hopefully they won't."
