Etherstone Avenue parking chaos - solutions sought
Greg, Deborah and Doreen continue to lobby the local authority for improved parking restrictions around the Etherstone Avenue area to prevent the chaos regularly seen on Saturday mornings.
Each Saturday morning during term time, young people from across the city are welcomed to play football at the highly successful sports ground on Etherstone Avenue.
Whilst it is wonderful to see so many enjoying all of the benefits community sport can bring, an issue has arisen regarding parking for the sessions.
In the absence of adequate parking facilities, we are seeing pavement parking which is both obstructive and dangerous. Local residents have reported feeling unsafe crossing the road, and some cars are parked in such ways as to make the pavements inaccessible for wheelchair and buggy users.
Your Liberal Democrat councillors continue to push for workable solutions to this problem. We would never want to deter young people and families from participating in sports, but need to see that adequate arrangements are in place.
We have written to the Director of Transport (Interim) at the local authority to request that parking restrictions in this area be reconsidered and, where appropriate, extended. We will update residents on any progress we make in due course.
