Extra help from Pupil Premium welcomed
Councillor Brenda Hindmarsh, councillor for Fawdon Ward, has welcomed the rise in the pupil premium for disadvantaged children in England's schools, which this coming school year will be worth £600 per pupil, up from £488. It already benefits Newcastle schools by over £4 million this year.
This year Kenton Schoo lhas received over £230,000 extra, and there has been help too for Gosforth totalling £57,000. Our local primary and first schools - North Fawdon Primary, Mountfield, Kenton Bar and Regent Farm First have received over £150,000 between them. So they will receive over 20% more in the coming school year
One Newcastle head teacher was quoted in the Evening Chronicle as saying: "This announcement is highly welcome, especially for schools in deprived areas. We use our pupil premium allocation to pay for after-school clubs for homework and reading and we will now be able to continue and expand on this."I welcome the news. The pupil premium is one of the key initiatives from the Government that really works. I very much support it."
