Flags over the Civic Centre

Following the incident when a Palestian flag was flown at the Civic Centre, Cllr David Faulkner asked about the current policy on the flying of flags and whether there has been any recent change and if so what - and what is the protocol for applicants.

The Labour leader responded that the City Council has a number of official flags that it has been gifted or purchased for specific events. We routinely raise the City flag and the Union flag outside the Civic Centre. Only on special occasions, such as days of national significance; national celebration; or when we welcome a VIP to the city, will we raise other flags.

A request should be made in writing on the designated form, which is available from the Civic Facilities Manager.
