Freight changes

25 Mar 2011

Major changes in the way deliveries are made to shops and businesses in Newcastle city centre will ease traffic congestion, make the city centre safer and the air cleaner.

The scheme is expected to start this spring and will see lorries unload at a warehouse off Scotswood Road, with goods taken into the city centre by smaller, less polluting vehicles.

The plan, once the scheme is established, is to use electric vehicles to transport freight into the city making Newcastle safer and cleaner - this innovative scheme is championed by the Lib Dem run City Council. It is
part of the plan to make Newcastle a carbon neutral City.
