HOLLYWOOD AVENUE

The City Council intends to resurface a short section of the road on Hollywood Avenue from the Salters' Bridge to the junction with Salters' Lane

The works are programmed to be done on Sunday 22 June 2014, between the hours of 9.00am and 6.00pm, and will involve the existing road surface being removed and replaced with a new black tarmac surface which will take one day to complete (or the following Sunday if weather bad). y.

During working hours this section of Hollywood Avenue will be closed to vehicles. with a diversion route signed. Advance warning signs are now in place. COMMENT : We still await news on this year's allocation for small highways work by Labour - and may have to wait more months. Ridiculous!

BT RESURFACING

The land around the BT building at the St Nicholas Avenue car park off the High Street was in a terrible state with the council powerless to do anything due the fact it is not "adopted" as it is wholly owned by BT. Following representations by East Gosforth Cllr David Slesenger and Parklands Cllr David Down we are happy to report that BT has fixed it! Another example of Liberal Democrats working together for Gosforth.

RED HOUSE FARM FOOTBALL CLUB

Bit of a woopsie from Cllr Ashby at the Parklands Ward Committee meeting. Despite its name, the pitches the club plays on are in fact at the far west of Parklands Ward (entrance on Kingston Park Road). Their website, which should have their development plans on it by now, is at www.redhousefarmjfc.co.uk

BENDY BUSES ON BRUNTON LANE BRIDGE

A resident was worried that bendy buses might overburden this bridge. The engineers have written to her and the Councillors to assure them that the all up weight of a full bus - about 28 tonnes - is well within the safe loading of the bridge.

THE FUTURE OF GOSFORTH CIVIC HALL

Following bids the council approved the grant of a lease to Gosforth Academy on the basis that they provide direct community benefit. But they are no longer willing to proceed on this basis.

The property will now be advertised on the council website as available for asset transfer for a limited period for any parties to express their interest. It is hoped that this approach will provide a framework to transfer the property with community benefit and so alleviate the current deficit of about £50,000 pa associated with the building.

REGENT CENTRE CONSTRUCTION

Steelwork started on the Marks and Spencer site, but roadworks dragging on. Recent photo attached.
