NO COLD CALLING ZONES - ENFORCEMENT
A Newcastle Trading Standards Officer tells us " Copy of letter that has gone out to a company based in Stockton following intelligence received from a resident in Melton Park. The resident also stopped the representative calling on his elderly neighbour."

PARKING TIMES ON BRUNTON PARK
Newcastle City Council will shortly be carrying out a survey to determine the needs for parking on Princes Road adjacent to the shops.
They will consult with nearby residents and the businesses to examine 2 options. Option 1 would be to leave the parking as it is. Option 2 would be to change the restrictions so that half bays would have a 1 hour limited waiting and the other half would have 3 hour limited waiting, also retaining the disabled parking bays.
This consultation will consist of a letter to residents informing them of these proposals and the reasons for the proposals, along with a questionnaire to be completed, either online, by post or via a researcher from Eljay Research. The questionnaire also has a question asking if residents experience problems parking outside of their house. This letter will be hand delivered with a follow up visit by a researcher if no response received.
In addition a questionnaire for area users visitors, (not residents) such as businesses, shoppers and community facility patrons will be used whilst a researcher is on site.
WARKWORTH WOODS PLAY AREA
All the remedial work has been done and the playground inspected. Newcastle City Council has now heard from the Consortium that they will take responsibility from now on.

GOSFORTH IMPROVEMENT CORRIDOR
A Gosforth eFocus reader writes : Further to many many months of consultation and events where officers have stated that the only shared surface would be immediately adjacent to the toucan crossings and where they have deliberately confused people with the poorly drawn and misleading plans, they have finally today published on the Newcastle City Council website what they really wanted all the time.
I will leave it up to you all to decide whether or not the shared surfaces as shown are safe but they are basically what was shown on all the original plans and was therefore my basis for many questions throughout the consultation and attending the appeals sub committee. This is a disgrace at so many levels. Please bear in mind that all the junctions throughout the scheme will be the same ie also Church Road. I have been informed that the public can make further comments on these plans yet the only feedback possible on the page is a yes no button, as per all other NCC website pages.
T
he one group this will clearly
a
ffect is children and their carers walking to and from school. Not forgetting of course the increasing percentage of elderly people in the ward. I will be asking the council where else in Newcastle is there something similar so we can be reassured it's safe. Is this a "step change in improving safety for vulnerable highway users" or just a step change for cyclists
?
MORE ON CYCLING AND THE LAW
Can I cycle on the pavement? No. There's lots on why, and other good stuff about cycling and the law, here.
NATIONAL ALLOTMENT WEEK
Is this week. We'd like to hear from anyone who is on a waiting list for an allotment, or who would be interested in taking one on.
ADVERTS WITHOUT PLANNING PERMISSION
No sooner than one illegal advertising trailer been removed from around the racecourse, another appears. Newcastle City Council tell us they
have been keeping an eye on the site in terms of these temporary adverts and pursuing Newcastle Racecourse for various adverts around the perimeter of High Gosforth Park.
As the advert has returned
they say they
will write again to the company concerned to get the unauthorised advert removed.
They
will tell them that the continued use of the site for advertisement purposes will result in the Council taking prosecution action against the company.

BIG BELLY SOLAR COMPACTOR BINS
The Council is currently undertaking a trial at three locations in Newcastle City Centre:
· Northumberland Street Junction Blackett Street - (Monument Mall)
· Grainger Street Junction Newgate Street - (outside McDonalds)
· St Nicholas Street Junction Mosley Street - (outside Subway)
Installed last Friday, there has been very positive feedback to date. They compact rubbish, and they also have the benefit that they can be checked online to the capacity of the bin. If successful we think they could be useful in Gosforth (and they're leased rather than bought so there's less of an upfront cost)
AND AS THE HOUSE OF LORDS GOES INTO RECESS....
Landlord and Tenant Acts - Question (29 Jul 2014)
Lord Shipley: A recent report by Professor Michael Ball of Henley Business School at the University of Reading suggested that too much resource goes into regulating good landlords and too little in tackling bad landlords. Might the Minister look at this issue and, in particular, see if the balance between the two is right?
