Keep Toon Free Of “Reverse Robin Hood” Tories
The Tories cannot be trusted in Newcastle say the Council's opposition Liberal Democrats.
This comes following the statement in Tunbridge Wells on Friday by Conservative Party leadership contender Rishi Sunak. Mr Sunak boasted that he changed government rules to move money away from deprived urban areas and into leafy suburbs such as Tunbridge Wells in the south east of England.
Councillor Nick Cott the Lib Dem Leader on the city council said, "This shows how out of touch the Tories are. Mr Sunak has shown himself to be a bizzare reverse Robin Hood type character. Taking from the poor to give to the rich. There has been no Conservative Councillor elected in Newcastle since 1996, this shows the good judgement of local people."
Our region lags behind the South East in most major economic and health indicators. The fear of city Liberal Democrats is that those gaps will widen.
Councillor Cott's colleague Councillor Tom Woodwark (pictured) said, "Life expectancy in the south east is 3 to 4 years more for women and men than in our region. This Tory takeaway will only exacerbate the problem. It is easy to see why the Tories have not had a councillor elected in Newcastle for decades. With policies like this we will remain Tory-free for many more decades. The Conservative Party simply cannot be trusted to put the interests of Geordie folk first."

Opposition Leader Cllr Cott added, "After the vast number of scandals I assumed the Tories had reached rock bottom, however this leadership campaign is a race to appeal the lowest common denominator. We will stand up for our city against this onslaught."
