Labour majority slashed by over 1000 as Liberal Democrats fight back in Blakelaw

In the Blakelaw Ward by election in Newcastle yesterday, the Liberal Democrat candidate Ciaran Morrissey reduced Labour's majority of 1376 in May to just 350. The result in full


Labour 1004 = 43% (down 20%, 1846 in May)
Lib Dem 654 = 28% (up 19%, 267 in May)
UKIP 443 = 20% (up 4%, 470 in May)
Cons 190 = 5% (down 3%, 221 in May)
Green 105 = 4.5% (up 0.5%, 117 in May)

The Leader of the Opposition Cllr Anita Lower said : "A massive congratulations to Ciaran and the team who took us to 2nd place with 29% of the vote, a huge fightback since May. We have proved yet again what hard work and determined community action can do as we overtook UKIP and pushed the Tories into 4th."
