Letting Boards: On their way out?

20 Feb 2012

After a lot of pressure from councillors and residents the Council will be applying to the Government for a Regulation 7 direction. If this is granted, there will be no automatic right for Agents to put up "To Let" boards in North Jesmond.

Many residents think these boards are left up for far too long and are used simply for advertising. There are often multiple boards when there should be only one and too many boards in a street can blight the area.

Councillor Catherine Pagan comments: "It's been obvious for a long time that the voluntary code to control letting boards has not been working. If this direction comes into force it will improve the local environment. Unfortunately there is a long bureaucratic process before any direction is made. We will be monitoring and cajoling as appropriate."
