Lib Dems invested £14 million in roads and pavements

Many people have noted that the state of roads and particularly pavements isn't great.

Many streets have been improved in the last few years thanks to the £14 million extra investment made by the Lib Dems when we ran the council, but more are in need of repair.

North Heaton Councillors Doreen Huddart and Greg Stone have identified Danby Gardens and Charminster Gardens as forthcoming priorities for pavement replacement in the highways maintenance and resurfacing programme.

However, since Labour have taken over control of the city council, we are concerned that they will take steps to reduce North Heaton's budget to switch funding to other parts of the city - the Labour councillor in charge of "Quality of Life" on the council has already said he thinks South Heaton should get more money than North Heaton as North Heaton has "imaginary problems"

Because of the large volume of vehicles which park on the pavements and not on driveways, breaking flagstones, the council is increasingly resurfacing pavements with Tarmac as it is more cost-effective to repair, enabling more to be upgraded with the funds available. In the mean while we have asked council Highways staff to fix dangerous or loose paving stones - let us know of any problem locations on your street.
