Following an Adjudicator's finding in favour of some motorists who appealed against their fines for using the bus lane on John Dobson Street in the City Centre, Liberal Democrats Group Leader Councillor Anita Lower said:

• Although the system was not designed for entrapment, it has had that effect

• Newcastle City Council must immediately improve the signage taking into account the Adjudicator's view

• The Council should come clean on what the millions of pounds of fines is being/will be spent on (we've pressed on this for some time now. We suspect the Labour Party has a vanity project up its sleeve)

• The Council should consider refunding, on a discretionary basis, all who appealed, even if time expired

• The Council should think again about the whole road configuration and whether it is fit for purpose.
