New rail services proposed under "open access" rules on East Coast mainline

The news you carried on 6th June about the possibility of more, and faster, train services from Newcastle and Morpeth to Edinburgh and London is interesting and exciting, Liberal Democrat Councillor Robin Ashby has written.

It also shows that relatively modest investment can be implemented fairly quickly and yield significant improvements for the ordinary traveller.

It will do more for this region and its economy than HS2, and in my lifetime rather than at some vague point long after I'll be dead
