Newcastle Liberal Democrats joint winners of Neil Hamilton Memorial Shield

5 Jul 2015

Skipper Phil Lower reports that Newcastle Liberal Democrats were joint winners of this annual cricket tournament.

"In our semi final we restricted St Cuthberts to 102 from 16 overs and chased it down with 3 overs to spare and won by 7 wickets.

"Ulgham beat Heaton St George Rovers in the other semi in a close match.

"In the final we again restricted Ulgham to just over 100 but sadly the lightning came along spoiling our chances of an outright win. A Gentleman's agreement was reached and a tie announced.

"Great fielding by Greg Stone, Bill Shepherd, Ian Laverick and Henry gallagher behind the stumps. Sore hands tomorrow!. Top batting and bowling by Lower Jnr Billy Signey and Nadeem. Star man Mark Nelson was making his debut and only team member yet to be on losing side.

"Thanks to all turning up and supporting us. You were like an extra player."
