Newcastle's roads tonight

29 Dec 2017
Great North Road, Regent Centre

Message from Newcastle City Council's Highways maintenance : Current Forecasts are predicting low overnight temperatures with icy conditions up until around 9am tomorrow . All gritting routes will be treated at 17:00 today. Following this road surface temperatures are predicted to rise up to around 5 degrees by lunch time tomorrow and remain above zero for the rest of the day.

Christmas refuse collections that would normally have been picked up yesterday (Thursday) - which were scheduled for today - have been completed as far as the council bins service has been able to in the extreme winter conditions. The crews have worked extremely hard in difficult and challenging conditions to remove as much refuse as physically possible. They were able to complete over 80% of planned collections. Non collections are predominantly in areas with steep gradients. Additional teams working tomorrow (Saturday) to complete the backlog if the weather allows. Anything that is not completed tomorrow, again weather permitting, will be collected on Sunday.
