Nighttime danger of roundabout bus slip roads

21 Mar 2017

Liberal Democrat councillors have received two reports in as many days like the one below.

The Polwarth Drive/Great North Road roundabout junction (and others incorporating bus lanes) reverts to a normal roundabout junction between the hours of 7pm and 7am and as such all traffic including all those using the bus lane, should give way to those vehicles entering the roundabout from their right as peron a normal roundabout. This has been confirmed by officers from NCC. There are give way lines painted across the bus lane on the south bound GNR side in order to enforce this highway rule. BUT I have been nearly wiped out and also rear ended several times by vehicles not stopping at these give way lines when travelling southbound on the GNR as I am turning south onto it.

Councillors are asking officers to remind bus companies about the "rules of the road", but it takes time for the message to get through, so please take care.
