Paddy Ashdown gets monumental welcome in Newcastle

Lord Paddy Ashdown visited Newcastle on Saturday 1st May and gave a rousing speech at the Monument. Standing beneath the statue of key reforming Liberal Prime Minister, Earl Grey, the former party leader covered a wide range of topics and was given a warm welcome by the gathered crowd. He was accompanied on the platform by Lib Dem candidates in Newcastle Ron Beadle, Wendy Taylor and Gareth Kane.

Lib Dem candidate for Newcastle North, Ron Beadle, commented: "It was great to have Paddy in Newcastle. He is an inspirational speaker, and left the crowd in no doubt that the Lib Dems have an excellent chance of winning Parliamentary seats in Newcastle this coming Thursday."
