Parliamentary boundaries - proposals which affect our region
The Boundary Commission is issuing proposals to give effect to the Government's wish to reduce the number of MPs from 650 to 600.
You can look up where you'll be if they go through at North East | BCE Consultation Portal
The aim is that the fewer seats will be more equal in numbers, and that the 2020 General Election will be fought on these new boundaries.
Public hearings are proposed, and anyone can comment to the Boundary Commission for England. This is what they say :
The number of constituencies in the North East must reduce from 29 to 25
By law, every constituency we propose must contain between 71,031 and 78,507 electors
We largely use local government wards as the building blocks for proposed constituencies
We try to retain existing constituencies where possible
We try to have regard to geographic factors
During the consultation we will be visiting the North East and holding two public hearings
14 - 15 November - Newcastle
17 - 18 November - Darlington
