Peter Allen won the North Jesmond By-Election on Thursday 12 September for the Liberal Democrats with 64.5% of the vote.

The by-election came after long-serving North Jesmond councillor Gerry Keating stood down due to ill health.

Peter said: "I'm honoured and a little daunted to be following Gerry's footsteps as the new representative for North Jesmond. During the campaign I was amazed at how many local residents took the time to pass on their best wishes to Gerry and his wife, Lucy (also a former Jesmond councillor). People were genuinely grateful for all the hard work that Gerry put into serving the local community. Along with my colleages Philip Browne and James Coles, we will continue to work hard for all Jesmond's residents, continuing Gerry's commitment to service."

The result in detail:

  • Peter Allen - Liberal Democrats 740 (64.5%)
  • Labour 234 (20.4%)
  • Greens 93 (8.1%)
  • Conservative 35 (3.1%)
  • Reform 26 (2.3%)
  • Party of Women 19 (1.7%)

Swing Labour to Lib Dem +14.5%
