"Protect red squirrels" protest

7 Jul 2016

This Friday, 8th July, at 9.30 a.m. in the Mansion House at Fernwood Road, Jesmond (NE2 1TJ), the Banks Group is applying to Newcastle City Council (planning
application 2015/1665/01/OUT) to build 462 houses next to Havannah Nature Reserve, which contains the last known breeding colony of red squirrels in the last city of England.

The Banks Group has admitted that it will not build the houses, but sell the land on - in other worlds, this is just land speculation. The profits will be used to finance further mining activities including new proposals for open-cast mining at Dewley Hill in west Newcastle.

Save Newcastle Wildlife invites you to join the protest, and attend the planning meeting this Friday. "Wear something red for the red squirrels." they say
