Tackling Crime and Disorder in Fenham

29 Oct 2010

Action has been taken to reduce youth disorder on the King George V playing field. After many complaints to local councillors and the police a joint initiative was set up. This involved local people reporting every incident to police. Police also carried out extra patrols and used diversionary measures to engage those causing the trouble.

Councillor Mitzi Emery said: "The field now has a play area feel to it again. Local children and parents can use the fields without fear of the gangs which plagued the area. The police will continue to monitor the area for further incidents and I urge local people to call the police if they see or hear any disorder."

Meanwhile, mobile CCTV has been used to tackle problems of anti-social behaviour in the Hadrian Road area.
