The all-change General Election - over to you

The Liberal Democrats have been campaigning for action to tackle the cost-of-living crisis, the NHS crisis and the sewage scandal.

Ali is the Liberal Democrats' candidate for Newcastle upon Tyne Central and West. He’s pictured here with City Councillors Mark Mitchell and PJ Morrisay who have been working tirelessly for him in the West Fenham Ward, as well as continuing to hold the Labour controlled Newcastly City Council to account.

Ali Avaei has been campaigning particularly to save pharmacies in Newcastle and has been calling for better GP access across the city.

“The Conservatives have been depriving many families of much needed help. That’s why the Liberal Democrats, unlike Labour, have been calling to scrap the two-child benefit cap,” he says. “At the last City Council meeting they failed to support a Liberal Democrats motion, and their Party nationally has been feeble on this major issue.

“The Liberal Democrats manifesto offers a bold and fully costed £9bn plan to tackle the health and care crisis, clean up sewage in our waterways, and put the economy back on track.

“Throughout this election I have spoken to hundreds of people across Newcastle Central & West, and my fellow candidates have done the same elsewhere, and one thing is clear - people in Newcastle and the rest of the country are ready for change.

"Local health services have been brought to their knees, people’s mortgages and rents have skyrocketed and water companies have been allowed to pump their filthy sewage into our rivers and beaches. All this by a Conservative government more interested in placing bets and fighting amongst themselves than standing up for the country.

“Every vote for the Liberal Democrats at this election is a vote to elect strong local champions who will fight every day for our NHS and care.”
