The worst roads for potholes in Newcastle

13 Aug 2019
Great North Road, Regent Centre

The number of potholes reported in Newcastle has soared from just over 15,000 to more than 21,000 in the last year. Fixing the backlog is estimated to have a £116 million price tag attached - money the City doesn't have. It will take Government intervention to get this show back on the road! But it's not a "sexy story" for the headline grabbers.

The Five of Shame, according to a Freedom of Information request from the Chronicle, are

Scotswood Road - 102 (up from 68)

Ponteland Road - 88 (up from 69)

Westgate Road - 62 (new entry)

Great North Road - 61 (down from 111 after work on Gosforth High Street and the new cycle route north of Broadway roundabout)

Stamfordham Road - 61 (new entry)
