Time To Take Away Some Takeaways?

24 Apr 2011

KAREN ROBINSON along with fellow North Heaton councillors Doreen and Greg want to tighten up local planning rules to restrict further
conversions of premises to takeaways in the area, after supporting residents who objected to a further takeaway unit at Red Hall Drive.
The council has already lost three legal appeals after refusing permission for takeaways at Chillingham Road, Newton Road, and the
Coast Road and there are growing concerns over odours, litter and the effect on retail mix and local vitality.

KAREN says "No one wants to ban takeaways but there are now more than 400 across the city and too many in areas like Chillingham
Road and Red Hall Drive. We will resist more conversions and will continue to campaign against inappropriate local development. We
have backed residents on planning issues like student housing conversions and phone masts and will continue to press for suitable
planning policies to protect character of our area and quality of life "
