Tribute to Abdul Latif from Council Leader

21 Jan 2008

On the news of the death of Abdul Latif on January 20th, Council Leader John Shipley said:

"I am deeply saddened by this untimely death.

The man we all knew as 'Latif' loved Newcastle and its people. He donated generously to charity, and was a wonderful ambassador for our city. He was brilliant at promoting his restaurants, and his knack for generating publicity was legendary.

Latif was also a good friend of the Liberal Democrats in Newcastle, and stood for election for the party on numerous occasions, though unfortunately never successfully.

Our party and the city of Newcastle will miss him greatly."
