Victory at last for No 3 bus campaign
The North Heaton Focus Team have campaigned for many months on behalf of Cochrane Park residents who were left stranded when Stagecoach cut back the number 3 service from Walker to Gosforth via Benfield Road, Cochrane Park, and High Heaton to peak times, then cancelled it completely last year.
GREG is a member of the Tyne & Wear Transport Authority and has been pushing hard for the service to be restored, with support from many older residents. From April the the number 3 service will return on an hourly frequency, providing a vital service for many residents, particularly for work, study, or accessing the Freeman or Walkergate hospital sites.
The service will feature new grey & red buses as part of the new network of subsidised services funded by NEXUS, filling the gaps not served by the "main" commercial routes, including extra services linking High Heaton and Four Lane Ends with the business parks at Longbenton, and local "shopper" services to Heaton Road and Shields Road.
KAREN says "Lots of hard work by your Lib Dem team and regular reminders from local residents has helped to persuade Nexus of the need for a north-south service for our area. The new NEXUS network will not only restore the service, but will feature brand new midi-size buses on the route. We hope local residents will make regular use of the service in order to ensure it flourishes."
Combined with investment in the Metro network and upgrading of Chillingham Rd Metro station, the Lib Dems are delivering real improvements to public transport in our area!
