Volunteers' Week is an annual event which celebrates the fantastic contribution that millions of volunteers make across the UK. The week plays a huge part in raising the profile of the millions of volunteers who regularly contribute to society, while inspiring others to get involved too. This year, to celebrate the Queen's birthday, the event has been extended to 13 June, so it runs from 1-13 June.

Let's take just one local example - in Fawdon Ward, supported by their Lib Dem councillors, volunteers have reopened the library closed by the Labour council; Fawdon Community Library has also supported World Book Night, run competitions for local children and created "Rollign Reads", taking books to the local care home for the residents. In the same building, volunteers help the Fawdon community centre operate its cafe, and elsewhere in the ward volunteers now carry out clean-ups of North Kenton Park - and have been cleaning and weeding during Volunteers Week.
